Limelight merupakan karya yang ditampilkan bersama seorang pemusik eksperimental, tiga orang mahasiswi dan seorang asisten (yang ketika itu disediakan panitia FOI4 untuk membantu saya produksi). Asisten yang saya dapat kala itu kebetulan seorang fotografer, jadi dia membawa alat khusus untuk flash light. Sementara tiga orang mahasiswi tersebut kala itu belum pernah tampil, tawarannya adalah mereka tampil, tanpa saya beritahu akan diapakan dan bisa meng-intervensi namun tidak boleh keluar ruang.
Tentang bagaimana seseorang menandai orang lain, mengenali orang lain atas persepsi yang ada dalam ingatannya. Bagaimana apabila ketertarikan orang banyak atas yang kita hasilkan, diiringi kepedulian untuk menunjuk kita sebagai objek kesempatan yang datang melaluinya. Bentuk kepedulian ini menjadi mengganggu, seperti mempersempit ruang gerak kita. Apakah mereka benar-benar peduli, atau hanya menjadikan kita objek yang menarik untuk dijinjing kesana-kemari.
Pertanyaannya untuk kedua belah pihak. Bagaimana rasanya menjadi objek yang menarik. Apakah ketika melihat objek yang menarik kita memperdalam pengamatan kita. Jangan-jangan kita tidak benar-benar memperhatikan, hanya menciptakan ilusi atas objek yang kita perhatikan tersebut sehingga menjadi menarik.
Limelight is the work that is displayed alongside experimental musician, three students and an assistant (who was provided by the committee FOI4 to help my production). Assistant that I get happened to be a photographer, so he took a special tool for flash light. While these three students has not been performed, the offer is they performed, without telling them what to do, can either do the intervention but should not be out of performance space.
This is about how someone marking others people, recognize others people on their perceptions that exist in their memory. What if the interest grow a lot on which we produce, than the concern appoint one of us as objects of opportunity that comes through. This kind of concern becomes annoying, such as narrowing the space for us. Does they really care, or simply make us an object of interest to carry here and there.
The question for both sides. How does it feel to be the object of interest. Is seeing interesting objects we deepen our observations. Perhaps we don't really pay attention, just creating the illusion of the object than it becomes interesting.
Penampilan dimulai dari menuntun penonton satu persatu kedalam ruang penampilan. Kursi diletakan berdampingan membentuk huruf U, seperti running stage dalam fashion-show. Sebelum menuntun diumumkan bagi penonton, yang memiliki penyakit jantung dan takut gelap disarankan untuk tidak usah masuk. Setelahnya mereka ditempatkan acak diatas kursi yang disediakan.
Ketika masuk ruang remang-remang sehingga sulit untuk melihat, mendengar suara musik eksperimental bervolume keras dan berirama tidak teratur. Setelah semua masuk, ketiga mahasiswi dipakaikan kertas kilap dan bubuk kilap glow in the dark secara bergantian. Ditengah bidang memanjang (running stage) ada satu kotak putih (pustek) untuk mereka berpose. Flash menyala acak ke arah tiga mahasiswi, para penonton lain yang membawa kamera juga saya sarankan untuk menyalakan flash-nya.
Penampilan ini secara otomatis bukan penonton melihat saya, tetapi bagaimana saya melihat keseluruhan peristiwa, untuk mencoba langsung pertanyaan-pertanyaan diatas melalui sebuah peristiwa yang saya simulasikan dalam sebuah penampilan.
The performance start from guiding the spectator one by one into the performance space. Chairs are placed side by side to form the letter U, such as running stage in the fashion-show. Before go inside, it announced for the spectators who have heart disease and the fear of the dark to not have to go in. Afterwards they are placed randomly on the reserved seats.
When entering the space it dimly and difficult to see, hear the sound of loud music and experimental irregular rhythmic. After all entered, the glossy paper and glow in the dark powder applied to the three student. Amid the longitudinal field (running stage) there is a white box (based) for their taking various pose. Flash lights randomly into their direction, the spectators who brought a camera is also recommend to turn the flash on.
This performance is automatically not for the spectators watching the performer, but how do I see the whole happening, to try to direct questions through a happening that I simulated in the performance.
Satu dari tiga mahasiswa tersebut mulai berlarian tidak menentu disekitar penonton. Sampai saya harus menariknya kembali ke tengah kotak putih. Pernyataannya setelah penampilan itu adalah: betapa dia tidak siap berada ditengah pertunjukan, ketika mata semua orang melihatnya. Mahasiswi satunya lagi malah merasa perlu untuk melihat si running stage, untuk melihat bagaimana dan dimana dia berada kala itu. Sementara yang satunya lagi menikmati berada di kotak putih, mengubah pose-nya sesuai dengan arah flash-light.
Sementara di sisi lain penonton tidak benar-benar melihat, karena riuh, gelap, bising. Ada yang tertidur, menutup telinga. Keluar sebelum keseluruhan peristiwa selesai. Beberapa menyatakan betapa marahnya mereka ada didalam situ, tidak bisa melihat dengan jelas dan terganggu, terganggu dengan penampil yang tiba-tiba duduk dipangkuannya atau disebelahnya.
One of the three students started running around the audience. Until I had to pull him back into the middle of the stage. Her statement after that performance is: how he was not ready at the center of the show, when there's a lot of eyes looking at her. Meanwhile on the the spectators did not really get to see, because boisterous, dark, noisy. Some were asleep, covering the ears. Out before the whole happening finishes. Some states how angry they were in there, could not see clearly and disturbed, annoyed when one of the performer suddenly sitting next or on their lap.
